I would not suggest you were wrong to sit on the sidelines as this is a personal thing and you have to be comfortable pulling the trigger. I had to sit this move out as I have been too busy at work the past week to check my 233 at appropriate times or enter in the a.m. That said I had both up and down potential setups listed on my watch list last week. Had I been able to watch and all of my coby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
I haven't watched the videos but based on your statement it supports a few of the comments GW made on the CDs and advanced "first thought is always the naked side". If you are trading big charts all you have to do is be right that the previous move is over even if your current directional bias doesn't pan out. Time decay on front month options now works in your favor (i.e., flat can mby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
I am definitely not a TOS swimmer but conceptually yes. That question is what started the Fun With Thinkscript thread. If you scroll through the first few pages you should find an example where four indicators are used for one signal. The premise is that you set up four counting variables. When a condition is met that variable is set to 1. You then sum. If the sum equals 4 then set an alert. Oveby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
Thanks Chunk! Now that I have basics out of the way adding earnings and setting up my backup are next on my list. I stumbled across the community thread from "theguru" a week or two ago. It sounded like users were having problems with the original code and data source but the most recent fix in Jan appears to have resolved the issue. Glad to know it works. Thanks Chunk! I really appreciate the feedback. After watching several videos I have come to the conclusion there are several ways to place equity orders but only really a handful for options. I think your recommendation is by far the easiest and once I customize OSP will be the closet to what I am use to. I had a mental roadblock with having to create a theoretical before placing a trade.by NCTrader - Trading Discussion
I concur. I love the flexibility of TS, chart analysis, and all the bells and whistles, etc. It is amazing what you can do and I am only starting to scratch the surface. That said the simple task of entering a symbol, pulling up an option chain, selecting the month/strike, and executing is the most cumbersome thing I have ever seen. You are absolutely correct. I am suggesting if you can't get exactly what you want then a good compromise may have to do. I remember emailing someone back in 2007 with a question that centered around trading vs. calendar. In the response I was politely told to “stop being an engineer type – it doesn’t matter”. Robert, Excellent job on the code you have been able to develop. I know very little about TOS other than I want to throw the computer out the window every time I try to navigate the platform. If I ever take the time to review the tutorials and build a comfort level I will revisit this thread as there is some really good stuff. Typically I can read the code and quickly figure out what you arby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
Let me first preface my post by saying I briefly investigated triple MAs years ago so I am conceptually familiar with what you are doing. I also have the utmost respect for Darcy, Robert, Rookie, et al. What you are able to accomplish using short charts is amazing. Too fast for me so I had to settle on the larger charts with forced discipline not to micromanage by looking every 30 minutes and gby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
That is pretty cool that you can create whatever timeframe you want or use one of the premade templates. I personally only look at regular sessions for my trading stocks but I am use to having a separate workspace containing a daily, 233, and a few smaller charts set to 24 hours. I start with the futures until just before the open to get a feel for how the morning and day might progress. The oby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
Here is the answer. Stumbled across this during lunch while looking for something else. TS intraday numbers are what we see during the trading session. Daily can be adjusted after the close by the Exchanges. "Daily data is 'corrected' by the exchanges after the market close. Form-T trades can come through before and after the market open and close. Yes, the two 233 charts I posted are the same time period. QCharts on the top with a start time of 1:23 is the same candle as the TS 233 Chart with end time of 4:00. For QCharts I selected the option to show "accurate charts" (a real memory hog) so that the candle shuts off exactly at 4:00. The 2nd option in Qcharts is "fast charts" that allows the candle to finish paintingby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
Yep, I am the engineer type that could easily get caught up in the "why is this off a hair" and forget about the big picture that I am trading stocks that move $5 to $10 or more in a week on big charts (some $10+ in a day). A few cents here or there is not going to bother me as along as the overall picture and signals look the same sitting a few feet away. It would be different if I wby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
I am not sure what to tell you. Visually my Daily/233 look pretty close. Looking at the numbers some things match perfectly while others are a bit off. The biggest difference is the closing price on 233 and both sets of BBs. Settings are all the same. I am wondering if it has anything to do with blank sessions (holidays) that can be included/excluded on the chart. I have seen some programsby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
The two charts above time stamped 5:43PM match up perfectly with my Daily and 55 minute charts on TS (Daily on Left / 55 on Right). I do not see a chart on this page that looks like my 233. That said my TS 233 and 55 do not exactly match my QCharts. I will take a look later this evening as well. Haven't had a chance to work on intraday yet but can certainly pull up side-by-side w/QC and compare.by NCTrader - Trading Discussion
Great to hear it is working out for you. Still learning myself. I haven't quite figured out if you can save chart settings (including indicators) as a default like we do in QC. That said I read that you can add all your indicators to an analysis group and then apply that analysis group to a new chart when created. The easiest thing so far is to right click the chart, select copy, then right clby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
Chunk, thanks for the tutorial on how to upload an image! Dan, appreciate the info on ADX. I will probably end up hiding ADX and I currently on use DMI. ADX never did a lot for me with the suggested settings. There are other indicators I like to watch to gauge strength of trend. We shall see if I can follow instructions and paste the image correctly. I had planned on providing a side-by-side with QC but realized it is a lot easier hiding GW settings from displaying in TS than in QC. I can assure you if I could provide side-by-side it would be hard to tell the two apart other than changing my color scheme on the SRSI midpoint. Almost there. It took me awhile to find the right code for StochRSI. The two I picked up in this forum were close visually but the values were off slightly from Qcharts. Dan, Chunk, et al. I am going through the set up and starting the videos again and have a quick question. I have reviewed a couple of the videos and reviewing a few more today. I am in the same boat. Just received final confirmation of account set up and link to download the platform. Unfortunately I will not be ale to download and start playing until Sunday. The concept might have been mentioned at a very high level in 1-5 but maybe not using those exact phrases. It was definitely mentioned later on in my studies. One last thought. An example of what I want to know is whether or not you can define variables in TS (or TOS for that matter) and then run a ount or sum to see how many of your conditions are met. In SD you were forced to write out all possible combinations of what you wanted to scan. I want to know if TS will allow you to define the conditions and sum up how many are met vs. writing out everyby NCTrader - Trading Discussion
I have question for anyone familiar with both TOS and TradeStation. For background purposes I discovered StrategyDesk, around 2006/2007. Spent a couple of years coding, designing FP/HRFP scans, adding in other technical factors, back testing, etc. Eventually went back to Qcharts as I was not able to do everything I wanted in SD coupled with sporadic connection issues. Thanks for the update, Michael! From someone that has seen the demo I truly love what you guys are building and plan on using when available.
