btw / here's my new case of indicatoritis. it's killin me!by linter - Trading Discussion
so is that the trade you took? looks pretty goooooood to me.by linter - Trading Discussion
on the hourly, i think the signal fired as per the pic, but red means to sell, not buy, right?by linter - Trading Discussion
i for one think most folks are taking baffle's tossing down of the trading-call gauntlet much too seriously. relax, take a deep breath, have fun, participate or not, skip the philo. probably i'll have nothing to add, since i'm concentrating on forex now and am currently suffering from a bad case of indicatoritis, but i might make a few calls, right or wrong, just to support the idea of the threby linter - Trading Discussion
tanman, thanks mucho for that. works just right. and yes it throws off a lot of signals, a bunch of them fakeouts of one sort or another, but the indicator is part of a larger system that is ***supposed*** to cut down on the failures. see: . i have my doubts, if only because skepticism of a system at that site leads to almost instant banning. but, i'm looking to see if i can find anything thby linter - Trading Discussion
okay, i found the actual code for dmi/adx, which i have appended below, along with the alerts from baffled1, minus everything associated with adxr, because i haven't figure out how to add that to the mix yet (hint, hint). i also attempted to add arrows when all conditions are met but so far I'm only getting arrows for DMI+ conditions, albeit the arrows are facing the wrong direction and changiby linter - Trading Discussion
awesome, thanks. will report back w/ completed code.by linter - Trading Discussion
well, thanks, i just went and looked and it seems that right you are. but to get the DMIs and the ADXs together, you have to put one on top of the other, right? ok, can do. like i said, thanks! and, about those alerts ....by linter - Trading Discussion
well, i've taken a sudden liking to Wilder's ADX indicator. one problem with ToS is it doesn't have the ADXr line, only the DMI+, DMI-, and ADX. i was wondering if someone here could code up the ADX with ADXr included? Definition of ADXr is below. thanks! ***also*** I would ***love*** to get alerts when the following conditions are met: Long: 1. DMI+ should be above 20 level. 2. Dby linter - Trading Discussion
man, i just don't know what to make of that. what i do know is that it so complicates my brain that i am rendered insensate, not for the first time and certainly not for the last. i am still trying to find a "system" that i can put my faith in and not think it's blind hope. i am plodding along. we shall see!by linter - Trading Discussion
if you read the thread, in which is demonstrated much genius, you'll find out that robert is on hiatus, length of time, unknown.by linter - Trading Discussion
forex, i'm not trading it with ToS. on baffled1's suggestion, i'm doing it with oanda.by linter - Trading Discussion
thanks, tanman, i'll give it a shot. i'm not optimistic either, but we shall see. meanwhile, the metatrader program that forex people use is so much better at this kind of thing. see screenshot. it runs without a hitch and updates on any price change, i think. guess i'll have to run it in the background, because i like ToS so much better in other ways.by linter - Trading Discussion
ok, tanman, thanks. sorry i can't help you with your request. i am just terrible at this stuff. which brings me to round two of my questions, also dealing with code for a custom column. what i would like to do is color the box based on the color of the heikin ashi color, green or red. to get around the update lag, i'd like to do this for the most recently closed time-period bar and the one bby linter - Trading Discussion
i think i might see what the problem is. the custom columns do not refresh speedily enough to keep up with price changes. is there a way to manually refresh the watchlist to update the readings?by linter - Trading Discussion
btw / here (hopefully) is a screenshot showing the diff in numbers on eur/gbp. column shows 38 and study shows like 28. and yes, i have both aggregation periods set to 1 hr. p.s. i know it looks like the 38 corresponds to the 38 on the study but that's just a coincidence. i think.by linter - Trading Discussion
tanman: thanks for that. sadly, it produces the same results as what i posted. (reason for all those inputs is, i took the script from a study and didn't know what to keep or throw out for a custom column.) the averageType input you gave didn't work, so i went back to what i had -- input averageType = {default SMA, EMA}; -- but i don't think that makes a diff, does it? here is the original sby linter - Trading Discussion
can anyone offer a little custom watchlist column help? i use a crossover-type indicator called the trader's dynamic index that i've put in a watchlist column that turns green when "price" is above "signal" and otherwise is red. the values for "price" also show up in the column. only, the values i get don't match the values of the TDI when it is used alone as a stby linter - Trading Discussion
Thanks for that, B1. Yes, it's the one I've been using. I'm not very good w/ chart patterns, so things like cups and saucers are out. otoh, i do believe in candlesticks. one thing i like about the method that uses the TDI is that it is used on heikin ashi bars, which tend to slow things down and (in theory) show trends and trend changes better than regular candlesticks. forex is all 100%by linter - Trading Discussion
Thanks a bunch. Yes, your website is very helpful in explaining the basics, which is where i am now. Re: ToS -- so do you do the algos and all that on ToS but do the actual trading on Oanda? If so, that sounds like it's the best way to go, rather than delving into MS4, though I do have to say the charts and set up look better for me. Maybe not as sophisticated as ToS but I suppose once you geby linter - Trading Discussion
Hi, Baffled: Thanks much for all the great info. So, for forex, ToS is not good and Oanda is better? Argggg. But, okay, I'll look into it. I know the guys over at forexfactory use MS4, so my learning curve can be somewhat shortened by doing as they do. At least they are mostly using canned indicators, so i won't have to learn a new language. Hadn't even thought about news in the senseby linter - Trading Discussion
And, yes, Baffled, I knew you'd show up, ha ha. In any event, forex is just beginning to interest me, and i'm trying to figure out how it works, so if anyone (B?) has any tips on reading material, I'd sure love some links. And if there's anything I ought to know about forex with thinkorswim, love to hear about that, too. I've been following along with some pairs using the trading made simpby linter - Trading Discussion
What I find interesting is that none of the responders to the OP's inquiry say they are making money and/or having success with what GW teaches. Doesn't mean they aren't, but wasn't that part of the OP's question and yet it has not been answered.by linter - Trading Discussion
oh, it's not that i don't want short trades; it's just that i figured i'd start with long for purposes of proof of concept. so far, it's a weird thing but the combo only seems to work on SPY at 3 min. i peeked at EUR/USD and didn't see much promise. Nor did even QQQ look any good. And yet, going back to SPY, certain parts of the indicator combo work at 15 min in order to set up and confirm goby linter - Trading Discussion
i guess everyone knows that robert is on hiatus, right? hey, i'm just as sad about it as the next guy, if not more, but until he returns, just understand that's why you're not getting a reply.by linter - Trading Discussion
Hmmm. I might not even know myself what I was talking about. But here's what I think I meant. In Tos, put all the indicators up as shown and do it for 3min / 5 days. now look at 13:39 pm on 10/19. that's the kind of thing i'm talking about. here's a screen shot. i think the indicators firing (roughly) together all at once, however, is pretty rare. but maybe that's a good thing? in thby linter - Trading Discussion
i agree about the bottom study, but when used with everything else, i'm not sure how much it adds, in terms of ruling trades in or out. maybe just another level of comfort? one thing is, i think the best signals from the paired indicators come when the crosses occur below the 25% level, with the fast line breaking above 25% within the next two or three bars. can that be coded? let me knby linter - Trading Discussion
Okay, here are the rules, near as i can figure em and only for the buy side at the moment. 1/ only begin to consider buys when price falls out of the lower-most channel. I consider this requirement met even if it's just a tail that has dropped out, as in the 11:30am bar on the charted posted above. Obviously, the earlier bars at 14:20pm are well out of the channel 2/ At this pointby linter - Trading Discussion
